Nannies

A NANNY’S ROLE

Nanny posts are available to those with nanny/nursery nurse or teaching training and some childcare experience, or those with considerable childcare experience. Nannies either have shared care or complete sole-charge of the children.

The following information is for guidance only. The specific requirements of a nanny should be agreed between the employer and employee prior to commencement of employment. This is a guide as to what would usually be included in the role.

Your nanny will be responsible for:

  • Your child’s safety, development and well being
  • The stimulation of the children in play to ensure good development as well as some educational stimulation such as reading to your child
  • Providing an atmosphere in which children can develop into sociable and independent individuals
  • Organisation and supervision of the children’s social activities as well as keeping your child constructively occupied
  • Dressing and bathing your child

A nanny’s duties include complete care of your children. Usually, a nanny does the children’s washing and ironing and is responsible for keeping the children’s bedrooms and playrooms clean and tidy, preparation of healthy and balanced meals for the children’s and bottle preparation. Although your nanny should be flexible, general domestic duties are not usually part of the job.
All Nannies will vary in extras they would do (household laundry, family cooking for example) and this needs to be discussed at interview. Childcare, however, should always remain the primary duty.

LIVE IN NANNIES
Live in Nannies normally work 10-12 hours per day, Monday to Friday plus 2 evening babysitting each week. They may also be required to work 5 ½ or 6 day weeks, and/or be “on call” at night, depending on the ages of the children. This, however, would be reflected in the salary. Live in Nannies are required to be provided with board and lodging.

DAILY NANNIES
Daily Nannies work 8-10 hour days, Monday to Friday. They are usually not asked to do evening babysitting, this would have to be agreed in advance and usually paid extra. We are able to place Daily Nannies throughout London.

PART TIME NANNIES AND WEEKEND NANNIES
The most in demand are Weekend Nannies, typically working from Friday pm until Sunday pm, both on live-in or daily basis. There are a number of experienced Nannies unable to work full-time due to studying looking for 2-4 days per week.

NANNY SHARE
A Nanny may be employed by two families at the same time. The practical arrangements are negotiated between the two families and the Nanny.

NANNY / PA
These are usually employed by families with older, school aged children. As well as childcare a Nanny/PA may be required to act as a family PA or PA to one of the parents at home or in an office while the children are at school. Typical duties may include administration support, booking flights or family holidays, supervising and organising other household staff and construction workers, organising household mail, paying bills and organising dinner parties for example. Nanny/PAs could be employed on a daily or live in basis throughout the UK and Abroad.
